S.H.A.R.E
Students Harness Aid for the Relief of the Elderly
Background
SHARE is an organisation of students in Cork city which provides elderly people with friendship and high quality self-catering accommodation. SHARE was founded by Bro. Jerome Kelly in Presentation College, Cork in 1970.

Bro. Jerome wanted to awaken a social consciousness in his students. Many elderly people were living in appalling conditions in Cork’s inner city at that time. Bro. Jerome challenged a group of senior students to do something about it. In response, over 200 custom-built homes have been provided by the organisation over the past 35 years.
Today, students from twenty secondary schools in Cork are involved in S.H.A.R.E. Each Christmas they organise a 24 hour fast at the Crib in the city centre and hold street collections which raise vital funds. The latest facility to be built is a day care centre for S.H.A.R.E. residents and local elderly citizens. The students keep in touch with their elderly friends through weekly visits.
